Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowdays, some people are choosing to fly less or stop flying. I think the advantages of this are greater than its causes or problems for individuals. But there are also some disadvantages of it.

In recent days, the ratio of migrants increased day by day. Many individuals travelled by planes for their businesses and for other puposes. Like some one have to go to abroad to meet their family, some people go to abroad for visit the countries, and some go for their meetings. Aeropplanes released alot of dangerous gases during their journey. Which can create air pollution. It is a major cause of air pollution. When we inhale in this polluted air, these dangerous gases can destroy the body and lungs. If we reduce the travel by planes in our country, it can be beneficial for the environment. It cleans the environment and reduce the percentage of pollution in the country. The massive use of planes cause many lungs diseases in human.

On the other hand, there are also some disadvantages of it. The reduction in travel by plane can affect individuals and businesses. Alot of people have to go to other countries for their business meetings and contract with other companies. If we stop fly, companies have lose in their bussiness. Clients and managers have to face many difficulties in their bussiness. Second, it can affect job opportunities also. Because there are alot of travel companies and many people are employ in it. If we stop fly, these individual have loss their jobs. Some individuals have to go abroad to meet their family. So that, we cannot stop flying.

From my perspective, we reduce fyling instead of stop flying. If we reduce this, it can be beneficial for our environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages of reducing air travel, such as business impacts and job losses. However, the position is not always clear or consistently maintained throughout the essay, and the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on pollution focuses heavily on general statements like 'Aeropplanes released alot of dangerous gases during their journey' without fully exploring the wider societal or economic implications required by the prompt. While the main parts of the task are touched upon, the lack of thorough explanation and extension prevents the response from achieving a higher level of task completion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a clear attempt to organise the essay into paragraphs, covering the introduction, environmental benefits, disadvantages, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is lacking, and the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used somewhat mechanically or inaccurately, such as repeating simple transitional phrases like 'On the other hand' without sophisticated variation. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the concluding remarks where pronouns and transitional links fail to smoothly tie the arguments together. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion needs significant strengthening to achieve a clearer logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that frequently cause difficulty or distraction for the reader. There are numerous spelling mistakes, such as 'Nowdays', 'puposes', 'abroad' used incorrectly as a noun phrase in 'go to abroad', 'Aeropplanes', 'alot', and 'bussiness'. Word choices are often basic and repetitive, and word formations are inaccurate, such as 'employ' instead of 'employed' and 'loss' instead of 'lose'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to travel and the environment, the high frequency of lexical inaccuracies restricts the precision and natural flow of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, plurals, and prepositions, such as 'the ratio of migrants increased day by day' (tense inconsistency), 'Some one have to go' (subject-verb agreement), and 'stop fly' instead of 'stop flying'. Punctuation and article usage also show persistent inaccuracies, such as fragments like 'Which can create air pollution.' These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally pause and decipher the intended meaning, reflecting a restricted control over grammatical structures.
