Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is an ongoing debate whether aeroplanes should be restricted from flying frequently to save climate or not. There are some individuals who are willing to limit the use of planes. From my perspective, the disadvantages associated with this approach are far more than the advantages. In this essay, I will give reasons in favor of my arguments.
To commence with, one significant drawback is for the individuals who work abroad. It is attributed to the fact that many professionals who don't find relevant jobs in their home countries travel thousands of miles for work in other countries. Provided that a pharmacist from a developing country travels to Australia for improved career opportunities, so it will become difficult to travel a long distance without the facility of flights. Therefore, restriction of air transport will create hinderance in the professional growth of individuals.
Another drawback is for the businesses whose profit relies on import and export. It is particular significant because many industries import high quality raw material from other countries which reaches the destination by plane. For instance,if a pharmaceutical industry obtains the raw material from China, it will require a fast means of transportation to prevent deterioration of the material. Hence, airplanes are essential for effective and quick delivery of products to promote businesses.
Conversely, proponents of the other statement claim that environment will benefit greatly from limiting the number of flights. This means that carbon emission will be reduced by this approach, and hence the effect of global warming can be minimized. Furthermore, air quality will be improved, which can prevent the occurrence of natural disasters as well. However, stopping the use of aeroplanes alone will not be sufficient to protect the environment.
Although abandoning flight operations can limit environmental pollution to some extent, from my perspective, it will create more downsides for individuals in the form of restricted migration for better opportunities and loss to organizations as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the environmental benefits and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses, presenting a clear position throughout. The arguments are generally relevant, fulfilling the criteria for this band level; however, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, while the point regarding individuals working abroad is supported with an example, the discussion on the environmental perspective and global warming remains slightly broad and lacks deeper extension. To reach a higher level, all main ideas would need more thorough elaboration and a more balanced exploration of the opposing sides.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as the impact on individuals in the second paragraph and on businesses in the third. However, cohesion sometimes feels mechanical or formulaic, relying on standard transition markers like 'To commence with' and 'Another drawback is'. Referencing and logical connectors are generally functional, but smoother integration of ideas across sentences would elevate the organizational quality further.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'deterioration', 'pharmaceutical', and 'proponents'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'save climate' instead of 'save the climate' or 'protect the environment', and 'hindrance' being misspelled as 'hinderance'. The vocabulary used is sufficient to communicate the main points clearly, though occasional slips in phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher level of lexical precision and fluency.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and conditional structures, such as 'Provided that a pharmacist...' and 'if a pharmaceutical industry obtains...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including awkward phrasing like 'Provided that a pharmacist... so it will become difficult' and missing commas or spacing issues around punctuation marks. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without difficulty.
