Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the recent time, many individuals have decided to reduce the number of times they use air transportation or to stop using air transportation. The moral view of those people is to reduce the air pollution or expenditure on travelling. From my prespective, avoiding flying may cause more damage to environment has the more vehicles will run at the same time travel businesses might have fall back due to this action. Both the views and my opinion are discussed further.

Many folks believe that by reducing air transportation they are indirectly helping or preventing the nature, but it is quite a opposite to that. If people will stop travelling using flights then they have to use other form of transportation such as cars, buses, or trains. Which can cause more noise pollution, and air pollution as all of the people will travel by their own vehicles. Furthermore, by travelling using private vehicles or by public transport may cause lots of inconvience to their life. For instance, by travelling through flights they can save the time of travelling as the air transportations are quicker than road transportations.

Moreover, it will not only affect the environment or local public it can also drawback the economy of a nation. There are many nations which are more likely to be popular for their tourism and their economy also runs from the revenue of tourism, so if the air transportation are avoided then countries like that can also suffer too. In addition to that, air line businesses may have to go through large number of loss throughout the year, which will eventually affects the economy of country.

To conclude this, i firmly believe that disadvantages for individuals and businesses outweigh the benefits to enivornment. However, precautions can be made before using air transportation but it is better and faster way of transportation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You give a clear answer to the question, stating that the disadvantages for individuals and businesses outweigh the environmental benefits, and you maintain this position in the conclusion. Your discussion of alternative transport and the effects on tourism and airline businesses is relevant. However, the environmental comparison is not fully established: the claim that other transport would cause more pollution is asserted without considering differences between transport modes or the possibility of fewer journeys. The effects on individuals are also mainly about time and inconvenience, with limited development. The response addresses the task, but some points are less fully explained than others. To strengthen it, compare the likely environmental gains directly with specific costs and support each main claim with a clear example. The response meets the required length; nine words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs generally group related points, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. However, some linking is mechanical, and the progression within paragraphs is not always smooth. For example, the sentence beginning “Which can cause more noise pollution” is a fragment, while “Both the views and my opinion are discussed further” does not clearly preview the argument. References such as “that action” and “countries like that” could be more precise. For stronger cohesion, connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports and use clearer transitions between environmental, personal and economic effects.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “air pollution,” “public transport,” “tourism,” “revenue” and “economy.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “outweigh the benefits.” However, the range is limited by repeated wording, especially “air transportation,” “travelling” and “cause,” and several choices or collocations are inaccurate. For instance, “preventing the nature,” “drawback the economy,” and “large number of loss” are not natural expressions and can make the meaning less clear. Spelling errors such as “prespective,” “inconvience” and “enivornment” also affect accuracy. Build a more precise set of topic collocations and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “If people will stop travelling using flights…” and a reason clause beginning “as.” This shows some range, but control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. There are errors in verb forms and agreement: “If people will stop” should use a present form after “if,” and “air line businesses may have to go through… which will eventually affects” has an agreement error. Sentence boundaries also need attention: “Which can cause…” is a fragment, and the opening sentence of the second paragraph runs into an unclear clause. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also inconsistent. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check each clause for a subject and correctly formed verb.
