Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many people have decided to fly less or stop

taking planes completely to help the environment. Although this choice causes some problems for individuals and businesses, I believe the environmental benefits are much more important rather than others.

On the one hand, reducing air travel brings some disadvantages. For individuals, flying is the fastest way to travel long distances, especially for holiday trips or visiting family living in other countries. Taking trains or buses instead can take a lot of time and be uncomfortable. For businesses, international travel is often necessary to meet clients and close important deals. If businessmen cannot fly, it may slow down business activities and economic growth.

On the other hand, the environment benefits of flying less are very large. Areoplanes use huge amounts of fuel and release harmful gases into the air, which is contributes strongly to global warming. When people choose not to fly, carbon emission drop imedeately. Furthermore, modern technolgy allows people to adapt easily. For example, business meeting can be done online through video calls, which saves money and times as well as prevents pollution without needing to travel. Every year air travel gradually increasing, people become busy with their life, so that individuals takes flight instead of travel by roads to.

In conclusion, stopping or reducing air travel may cause some inconvenience for travelers and companies. However, I believe the benefits for the environment are far more important because protecting our planet from climate change is essential for everyone. Moreover, people can aware for the environment awareness, and reduce uses of air travel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the question and state a clear position: the environmental benefits are “much more important” than the disadvantages. Relevant points include the convenience of flying for family visits and holidays, the role of travel in business, and the potential of online meetings to reduce travel. This meets the task well, though the support is uneven: the disadvantages are explained with concrete examples, while the environmental case relies mainly on fuel use, emissions, and global warming. The sentence about air travel increasing and people choosing flights over road travel is unclear and does not develop the comparison. To strengthen the response, explain more directly how reduced flying benefits the environment and weigh those gains against the specific costs to individuals and businesses.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for disadvantages and benefits, and a conclusion that restates your view. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the argument. However, progression within the environmental paragraph becomes difficult to follow, particularly in “Every year air travel gradually increasing…”; its connection to the preceding point about online meetings is not clear. Some links are also mechanical, and the conclusion introduces the idea of environmental awareness without developing it. For stronger cohesion, organise each body paragraph around one main claim, connect examples explicitly to that claim, and use clear references and transitions rather than adding loosely related points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “global warming,” “carbon emission,” “international travel,” and “video calls.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “close important deals.” However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “Areoplanes,” “imedeately,” and “technolgy” are misspelled, while “the environment benefits” and “reduce uses of air travel” are awkwardly formed. “Harmful gases” is understandable but could be more precise in this context. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships, especially for emissions, environmental effects, and travel. This would make the argument clearer and more natural without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although this choice causes some problems…” and a conditional structure in “If businessmen cannot fly, it may slow down…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction weaken control. For example, “which is contributes” combines incompatible verb forms, “carbon emission drop” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “business meeting can be done” needs a plural or an article. The final sentence of the environmental paragraph is also structurally unclear. Review agreement and singular/plural forms, and revise complex sentences to ensure each clause has a clear subject and verb. More consistently accurate sentences would improve readability.
