Student answer (Band 6.0)

The debate of environmental benefits got by reducing the travel by air is increasing day by day. But this can be challenging issue for individuals and busnisses. I strongly believe its environmental benefits outweight the disadvantages.

On the one hand, reducing air travel can cause several problems for individual and busineses. Flying is more convinient for individuals for long distances. Some people who are far away from their families, they choose to travel by air. Air travel is very beneficial in a context of time saving for individuals who want to meet their families for short period of time. It can effect businesses as well. Moreover, there are different meetings that need to be held face to face for international clients. If they did not attend these meeting, this act can damage their company's portfolio.

On the other hand, environmental benefits of reducing flight is considerable. Aircrafts consume large number of fuel which cause the pollution. Pollution is very dangerouse for everyone. People got sick due this greenhouses gases and bad smoke. In addition fewer flights may reduce noise pollution around the airports. People will try to use alternatives like trains, buses and online meetings. For instance, companies can use video conferencing for their meeting.

In my opinion, environmental advantages of this development are more signifcant than its disadvantages. Although, flights are necessary for some journies but people can replace by environmental friendly options.

In conclusion, while flying less may inconvenience individuals and create financial challenges for some businesses, the resulting reduction in pollution and greenhouse gas emissions makes this development beneficial overall. A balanced approach that prioritises sustainable alternatives while retaining essential air travel would be the most effective solution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction—environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages—and the conclusion reinforces it while acknowledging that some flights remain necessary. You address both sides with relevant points: family visits and face-to-face business meetings are set against fuel use, emissions, noise, and alternatives such as video conferencing. This covers the task well. However, some points are asserted rather than explained: for example, the claim that missed meetings could damage a company’s “portfolio” is unclear, and the environmental case would be stronger with a more specific explanation of how fewer flights reduce emissions or a relevant example. The balanced approach is present, but fuller support and clearer development of these ideas would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to disadvantages, environmental benefits, a stated opinion, and a conclusion. The contrast between “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the main argument, and the final paragraph effectively summarises the position. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Moreover” introduces another business disadvantage without clearly linking it to the preceding point, while “Although” at the start of the opinion paragraph is followed by an incomplete contrast. The separate opinion paragraph also repeats the position rather than developing a new step in the argument. Use referencing and transitions more naturally, and organise related claims into a more continuous progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “air travel,” “face to face,” “noise pollution,” “greenhouse gases,” and “video conferencing,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “international clients” and “sustainable alternatives.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable: “busnisses,” “convinient,” “outweight,” and “dangerouse” should be corrected, while “damage their company’s portfolio” does not clearly express the intended business consequence. Phrases such as “benefits got by reducing the travel by air” are also awkward. Build accuracy with common collocations and check spelling, word forms, and whether each chosen phrase conveys the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “If they did not attend these meeting…” and a concession in “Although, flights are necessary…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Some people who are far away from their families, they choose” has an unnecessary second subject, and “Aircrafts consume large number of fuel which cause” has problems with number and agreement. “People got sick due this…” also has an incomplete grammatical pattern, and the final “people can replace by…” lacks a clear object and passive construction. Practise accurate clauses, agreement, articles, and verb patterns; then proofread complex sentences to ensure their parts connect correctly.
