Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people have made collective efforts to reduce the number of air-travel they do annually. This initiative seems to have a positive impact on the environment. I largely think that the benefits of this approach dominates its drawbacks.

One of the major advantages include less number of passengers. When a group of people chose to not travel, as a result, a decline may occur in the onboard flights. A few flights will consume relatively small amount of energy. Less planes in the air may lead to reduced carbon emission in the open air. This may inhibit increasing pollution on a small scale comparing to the total atmosphere of earth. However, this can positively impact in the long-term. Furthermore, decrease demand of fuel has ability to protect fuel reserves. Again another benefit for natural resources and environment.

There are also some limitations to this aspect. When people will prevent travelling through aeroplanes. It decreases their chance of personal interaction. Furthermore, they should have to switch from physical meetings to video calls for important business meethings and deals. This will increase inefficiency, theft and scam, leak of confidential information in some cases where there is a need for proper supervision.

In conclusion, there is a climate emergency due to global warming. This step has a capacity to become a contributing factor in the prevention of environmental problems. The stated disadvantages also demonstrates that proper supervision, control monitoring are crucial factors for the long-term sustainability of businesses and individuals progress. I strongly believe that these problems can be handled but we should have to take important steps today for the conservation of our environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear position: you “largely think” the environmental benefits outweigh the drawbacks. The environmental points about reduced emissions and fuel use are relevant, while the disadvantages concerning personal interaction and business meetings respond to the impact on individuals and companies. This fits the task because the main parts are covered, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the link between fewer passengers and fewer flights is asserted rather than explained, and the claims about theft, scams and information leaks in online meetings need clearer support. To strengthen the response, explain how reduced flying affects emissions in practice and compare the scale of these environmental gains with the specific costs to people and businesses.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on environmental benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to drawbacks is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. “Again another benefit” repeats the previous linking function, while “However” appears after a sentence that does not establish a clear contrast. Some references are also difficult to follow, such as “this aspect” and “This step.” Improve the flow by linking each claim explicitly to the previous one and using pronouns only when their reference is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “carbon emission,” “fuel reserves,” “personal interaction,” and “confidential information.” These choices show an attempt to discuss environmental and business consequences rather than relying only on basic terms. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “number of air-travel,” “less number of passengers,” “decrease demand of fuel,” and “theft and scam” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling and word-form issues, including “meethings.” Aim to learn vocabulary in common combinations and check whether a noun is countable and whether a verb takes the correct form. More precise phrasing would make your argument clearer and more persuasive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional and modal constructions such as “When a group of people chose to not travel” and “This may inhibit increasing pollution.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Subject–verb agreement is inaccurate in “the benefits … dominates” and “One of the major advantages include”; verb forms are also problematic in “When people will prevent travelling.” Other examples include “they should have to switch” and the sentence fragment beginning “When people will prevent travelling through aeroplanes.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly the missing space after “earth.” and the following “However.” Review agreement, conditional clauses, and how to join dependent clauses; these corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at varied structures.
