Student answer (Band 5.0)

Throughout history, humans spent years of evolving in transportation methods from steam engine cars to trains until we created air planes. Many people view this advancement a step forward to the future of entertainment or buisness, while others fear the implication of this mode of transportation on the environment, encouraging lots of people to either reduce the number of flights they take or stop flying altogether. I believe we should raise awareness on the environmental benefits of reducing airplane usage and how it outweigh the disadvantages for individuals and buisnesses.

Since the invention of airplanes, the air quality worsened. Planes have a high carbon footprint, which destroys the of our health and increases green-house gases. Additionally, airplanes interferes with the migration routes of birds during changing season, and lots of incidents have been reported of birds crashes which might endanger some birds' species. Moreover, air crafts released lots of waste in the the ocean, damaging the marine ecosystems and wildlife.

However, some argue that planes are a superior means of transportation overseas either for buisness or pleasure. I agree to some extent as planes can transport goods or products that are essential like wheather-sensitive medications or foods, But we must result to air crafts for priority needs

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear overall view in the introduction: reducing flights brings environmental benefits that outweigh the disadvantages. You also identify relevant concerns, including aviation emissions and the usefulness of air transport for urgent goods. However, the response only partially develops the task. The environmental points are asserted rather than explained, and the discussion of disadvantages is incomplete: the notes about overseas travel and business goods are not turned into a developed argument. The response also ends with “In conclusion,” without giving a conclusion, so the final judgement is not reinforced. Develop two or three main points with explanations or examples, and explicitly compare their importance to show why the benefits outweigh the costs for individuals and businesses.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt at an overall structure, with an introduction, an environmental paragraph and a paragraph beginning “However” to introduce opposing considerations. Linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “Moreover” help signal added points. However, progression breaks down in the second half: the paragraph becomes a series of planning notes (“disadvantages,” “some many argue…”) rather than connected essay prose, and the final “In conclusion,” is unfinished. Some ideas are also difficult to follow because the relationships between them are not made explicit. Plan a clear sequence of complete paragraphs, use each paragraph to develop one central point, and ensure the conclusion summarises the comparison and your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “carbon footprint,” “green-house gases,” “migration routes,” and “marine ecosystems,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also an attempt to vary wording with phrases such as “air crafts” and “mode of transportation.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning unclear: “destroys the of our health” is incomplete, “buisness” is misspelled repeatedly, and “result to air crafts” is not an appropriate collocation. “Birds crashes” and “wheather-sensitive” also need more accurate forms. Build a reliable set of topic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; precise phrasing will make your arguments easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a reason introduced by “Since.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation can make parts difficult to understand. For example, “Since the invention of airplanes, the air quality worsened” has an awkward tense relationship, while “airplanes interferes” has subject–verb disagreement. The opening sentence, “Throughout history, humans spent years of evolving…,” is also structurally unclear, and the sentence beginning “I agree to some extent” runs into an unfinished thought. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, check agreement and tense, and use punctuation to separate complete ideas.
