Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the environmental benefit of reducing flights and attempt to present a counterargument about the convenience of air travel, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the position is not established: the introduction promises an opinion, but the conclusion ends with “there are no easy answer … on balance” without stating whether the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. The discussion is also very brief and the examples do not clearly support the comparison—for instance, the reference to COVID-19 travel does not explain how the disadvantages for individuals or businesses compare with environmental gains. The response is 198 words, below the required 250, which limits how fully you can develop both sides. State your view directly and extend each main point with a clear explanation and relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable overall shape: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signalled by “On one hand” and “In other hands,” and an attempted conclusion. This gives the reader a basic sense of the intended argument. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow because ideas are asserted without clear links or explanation. For example, the move from aircraft emissions to government laws does not show how the example supports the point, and the COVID-19 example appears abruptly. Some linking phrases are also used inaccurately, and the final sentence is incomplete, leaving the essay without a clear ending. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it; use transitions only where the relationship between ideas is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “carbon monoxide emissions,” “ozone layer,” “global warming,” and “environmental benefits,” which shows an effort to discuss the issue beyond everyday language. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word combinations frequently make the meaning unclear, as in “deyning,” “arugment,” “upper atmospher,” and “percentage monoxide emissions.” Some key terms are also repeated rather than expressed precisely, and “carbon monoxide” appears to be used where a more accurate description of aviation emissions is needed. Build a reliable set of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations before using less familiar terms. For example, “aircraft emissions” is a safer general phrase, while “greenhouse-gas emissions” can describe the climate impact more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You make some attempts to connect clauses and express cause and contrast, such as “While it is commonly held…” and “In addition…,” but most sentences follow a simple pattern and there is little evidence of controlled complex structures. Errors in verb forms, sentence construction, articles, and agreement often obscure the intended meaning. For example, “some people have decided decrease” needs a verb pattern such as “have decided to decrease,” while “air travel cause” requires subject–verb agreement. The opening also contains an incomplete or unclear sentence, and the conclusion is unfinished. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with correct verb forms and punctuation. Proofread each sentence to ensure it has a complete subject and verb and expresses one clear idea.
