Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the topic and begins to discuss advantages and disadvantages, but it does not answer the central question: whether environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages for individuals and businesses. The main point developed is that flying saves time and is convenient, which is relevant to disadvantages of reducing flights, but there is no explanation of environmental benefits and no clear overall position. The second paragraph stops after introducing a disadvantage, so the discussion is incomplete. The response is also 157 words, below the required 250 words; 16 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, state your view directly and develop both sides with specific explanations and examples before reaching a conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by a paragraph beginning “firstly” and another beginning “second”. These markers help signal a sequence, and the first body paragraph gives an example after its main point. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because the introduction promises advantages and disadvantages without establishing a position, and the second body paragraph ends abruptly. Connections within the first paragraph are also unclear, particularly where the discussion shifts from travel time to technology and accommodation. Use one paragraph for environmental benefits and another for effects on individuals and businesses, with clear topic sentences and explanations. Complete the argument with a conclusion that answers the question.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “reduce,” “fly,” “merits,” “demerits,” “destination,” and “facilities,” so the reader can identify the general subject. There are also attempts to express ideas such as convenience and reliability. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word combinations frequently weaken clarity, for example “dwestination,” “vechicle,” “reliaviable,” and “more eaiser.” Some choices are also imprecise: “developing countries like london” does not clearly express the intended example, and “optimizes some disadvantages” is not a natural phrase. Build a more accurate range around emissions, carbon footprint, business travel, and access to transport, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, including a reason introduced by “because” and an example introduced by “for instance.” This shows some effort to connect clauses, but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in “this have a both advantage,” “it is usually take,” and “they are usually used”; these make relationships between ideas harder to understand. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “one of the main merits” followed by “itsave,” and the long sentence beginning “for instance” lacks clear punctuation. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, tense, articles, and punctuation before submitting.
