Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, some people are choosing to reduce the number of flights they take every year or stop flying completely. Although it have disadvantages on individuals and buisnesses. I believe that its advantages will outweigh its drawbacks.

The main advantage of flying less is that it can help reduce air pollution and global warming. Aeroplanes produce large amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which can contribute to climate change. If more people choose alternative transportation means like buses and trains, the amount of harmful emission could decrease. Another important benefit is that reducing air travel can encourage airline companies to develop new environment friendly technologies. As a result, this development can help protect environment and safer to live for the future generations.

Despite these benefits, there are some disadvantages. One major concern is that it will have bad impact on buisnesses and the workers who work with the airlines. This can also impact the countrys economy because the cash flow will be limited and also the tax government collect from individuals and buisnesses will be reduced. However, this drawback is less significant than the advantages because locals will travel on different means of tranportation which will be environment friendly and safer for the atmosphere.

In conclusion, although flying less can cause the working society and the buisnesses and also the economy of ones country, i believe its advantages will outweigh its disadvantages because if the environment is safe then the individuals can travel without any health problem and also different environment friendly transport vehicles can safe the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you believe the environmental benefits of flying less outweigh the disadvantages. You address both sides and give relevant points, including reduced emissions, pressure on airlines to develop cleaner technology, and possible effects on airline workers and national revenue. This meets the task, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the economic drawback is described mainly as reduced cash flow and tax, without explaining how this would affect businesses or individuals in practice. The claim that alternative transport will be safer and protect health is also asserted rather than supported with a specific example. Develop these points with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. The progression from environmental gains to economic costs is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “Despite these benefits” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. This is a strength beyond basic organisation. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the disadvantages paragraph, the shift from reduced airline activity to lower national tax revenue needs a more explicit explanation. The final sentence also combines several ideas, making the conclusion less focused. Use clearer referencing and divide complex reasoning into more manageable sentences to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “air pollution,” “carbon dioxide,” “climate change,” “alternative transportation,” and “airline companies,” so the main ideas are generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “harmful emission” and “cash flow.” However, the range is limited and some word choices, collocations, and spelling errors are noticeable: “environment friendly,” “bad impact,” “tranportation,” and repeated misspellings of “businesses” reduce accuracy and polish. Some phrases are also vague, such as “the working society” and “different environment friendly transport vehicles.” Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make the argument sound more natural and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional sentence beginning “If more people choose alternative transportation…” and a concessive opening with “Although.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “Although it have disadvantages” is an incomplete dependent clause and has incorrect subject–verb agreement; “Aeroplanes produce large amount” needs an article or plural noun; and “the tax government collect” has an incorrect verb form. The conclusion also contains a long, loosely connected sentence, while “i” should be capitalised. Practise complete clause structures, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread for these recurring patterns.
