Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many individuals have chosen to reduce the number of times they fly in order to reduce its environmental impacts. While this trend may have certain difficulties for the people and businesses. But I strongly believe that its benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

The primary advantage of flying less is the reduction of greenhouse effects that harm the overall temperature of the Earth. Aviation is the fastest way to increase the carbon dioxide which directly cause the climate change. Furthermore, if people reduce the number of flying, the government may invest more in the technologies that may play a crucial role in the development of their country. For instance, Pakistan is a developing country, if it lower the consumption of of flying, it may pay more attention on the other facilities such as technologies, health departments and some more.

This development also have some disadvantages like if the people stop or reduce the numbers of flying, it may damage the convenience to reach the other country, especially for businessmen as well as the individuals who have their family abroad. Businesses that rely on face to face meetings and exchange of products may suffer through the lot of difficulties. The industries such as terrorism and aviation may experience financial loss.

Although, these advantages are limited and can be solved through the alternatives such as video conferencing, high-speed networks. If the government pay attention to it, the results can be beneficial for the economy of the country.

In conclusion, although flying less may present different challenges to the individuals and businesses but its benefits exceed the disadvantages. I firmly believe that it is a positive development towards the progress of the country and the nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear position: you believe the environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages. The discussion of aviation emissions is relevant, and you identify practical costs for people with family abroad and businesses dependent on in-person meetings. However, some points are not fully explained. The claim that flying less would lead governments to invest more in technology and other services is not clearly connected to the environmental benefits, and the Pakistan example does not show how this change would produce that investment. The reference to “terrorism” also appears unrelated to the likely impact on aviation businesses. Develop the environmental case and support each example more directly. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to benefits, disadvantages, alternatives and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the main stages of the argument, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For instance” and “In conclusion” signal relationships between ideas. Some connections, however, are mechanical or unclear. The opening of the second paragraph uses “While” followed by “But,” creating an awkward contrast, and “Although, these advantages are limited” does not clearly identify which advantages are meant. The Pakistan example also shifts from emissions to government investment without a clear bridge. Use linking phrases more selectively and make the relationship between each example and the main point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “greenhouse effects,” “carbon dioxide,” “climate change,” “video conferencing” and “financial loss,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “play a crucial role” and “beneficial for the economy.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “the fastest way to increase the carbon dioxide,” “the number of flying,” and “suffer through the lot of difficulties” do not sound natural. “Terrorism” is likely an incorrect choice for the industry you mean. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “aviation emissions,” “number of flights” and “face considerable difficulties.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “If the government pay attention to it” and a concession in the conclusion. The overall meaning is usually clear, but some errors in sentence construction, agreement and grammatical forms remain. For example, “While this trend may have certain difficulties … But I strongly believe” is an incomplete contrast structure, while “Aviation … cause” and “This development … have” show subject–verb agreement problems. In “if it lower,” the verb form also needs to agree with its subject. Review agreement and ensure that subordinate clauses are joined to complete sentences. More accurate control of these structures would make the argument smoother and easier to read.
