Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals have agreed to lower the number of times they fly each year or to completely stop it. There are several advantages of this development including reduction in air pollution and conservation of natural resources. It also has several drawbacks such as limiting the opprtunities for business and it creates emotional boundries for individuals.

One of the major advantages of this development is that it reduces the air pollution. This is because when planes fly in air dangerous gases are emitted into the air which causes air pollution . For example if number of planes in air are reduced every air this will result in less emissions of dangerous gases in which are residulas after combustion in engines of planes. Also having more flights causes more fuel consumption by limiting the number of flights we can save natural resource in the form of fuel.

On other hand this development comes along with different drawbacks such as reduced business opportunities. This is because if number of flights are limited then the business owners can not expand their business globally

which results in limited opportunities. For instance if a person owns a business that is capable of international growth reducing flights will limit his business only to the local market eliminating his access to global market. Also the persons who are overseas and live far away from family may feel emotionally depressed by not meeting their beloved by reducing flights.

To conclude some individuals have decided to lower the number of flights they have each year or to stop it all. This development has several advantages such as enhanced environment of air and conservation of natural resources also it has certain cons such as limiting the opportunites range and feeling emotionally stressed. I believe that the environmental advanatages of this development outweigh the disadvantages

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and give a clear view in the conclusion that the environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages. The points about emissions and fuel use are relevant, and you support the business disadvantage with an example of a company restricted to its local market. However, the comparison is not fully developed: the essay lists environmental benefits and personal and business costs, but does not explain why the benefits are more significant overall. The emotional impact on people separated from family is also introduced briefly and not explored. To strengthen the response, explain the scale or long-term effects of reduced emissions and directly weigh these against the practical costs to travellers and businesses.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from environmental effects to business and personal consequences is easy to follow, and signposts such as “One of the major advantages” and “On other hand” help identify the argument’s stages. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, connections between ideas are sometimes mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Also,” and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than synthesising the comparison. Some references are unclear, such as “stop it all.” Use more varied linking and precise references, and make the final paragraph show how the two sides compare.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “air pollution,” “emissions,” “fuel consumption,” “business opportunities” and “global market.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “conservation of natural resources.” However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the expression awkward: “emotional boundries,” “opportunites range,” and “enhanced environment of air” are unclear or unnatural. “Stop it” is also imprecise when referring to flying. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe “reducing flights” and “improving air quality” rather than using vague or non-standard phrases. This would make your adequate range more precise and reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect clauses such as “This is because if number of flights are limited…” and a conditional example beginning “if a person owns a business.” Most of the argument remains understandable, and the errors do not generally prevent the reader from following it. Some grammatical problems persist, however: articles and plurals are missing in “if number of planes” and “when planes fly in air,” while “it creates emotional boundries” does not agree smoothly with the plural subject “drawbacks.” There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary issues, including the long, crowded sentence about emissions and fuel. Review articles, agreement and punctuation, and divide lengthy sentences into clearer units.
