Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people have taken the decision of minimizing the number of flights they take in a year or even taking no flight at all. I belive that this development will significantly impact the environment in positively. The advantages of this ideology can benefit individuals and bussinesses more rather than producing more drawbacks. I will justify my point in this essay through reasons and examples.
Flying unnessary has become a major issue accross the world. People tend to travel to other countries just to attend a marriage of their relative or friend. Furthermore, some individuals do destination weddings and it has become a custom in every country. But this matter is increasing pollution in the societies for no reason. This trend can come to an end and it will significantly affect environment, whereas it will positively impact the individual by stopping the trend of wasting money, spent just for the sake of show-off.
Nowadays, some people have to attend meetings with the clients who live in other countries. They travel to other country for just a meeting and pay a lot of money for it. This problem can be solved by attending meetings online. Technology has made it easier for them that do not pay money and attend a meeting through different applications on computer like Zoom or Team. This development is signicantly benficial of an individuals. Likewise, many bussinesses have to pay for their employees to attend meetings overseas. This solutuion of using technology for meetings is also advantagous for them in this sense that they do not need to pay a lot of amount on social flights.
In conclusion, I believe reducing the number of flights taken in a year can play a pivotal role in reducing pollution caused by heavy engins of airoplanes or jets. In addition, it can also benfit any individual and bussiness by reducing the cost they pay for flights. The disadvantag

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you believe reducing flights benefits the environment and can also help individuals and businesses save money. You address both sides of the question through examples about destination weddings and replacing overseas meetings with online calls. However, the environmental benefit is asserted rather than explained in much detail, and the disadvantages for individuals and businesses receive little consideration. The conclusion begins to restate your view but ends abruptly at “The disadvantag,” so the response does not fully resolve the comparison asked for. To strengthen the argument, explain how reduced flying lowers emissions and weigh this against specific costs, such as fewer opportunities for face-to-face business or difficulty visiting distant family.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main ideas generally follow a sensible order. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Nowadays,” “Likewise” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. Some connections are less clear, however: the first body paragraph moves from weddings to pollution and then to individuals’ spending without fully explaining the links. The conclusion also stops mid-sentence, weakening the overall progression. Use clearer topic sentences and develop each paragraph around one main point; then ensure the final paragraph completes the comparison and gives a definite closing judgement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “pollution,” “destination weddings,” “meetings overseas” and “reducing the cost.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “pivotal role.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, for example “unnessary,” “social flights,” and “beneficial of an individuals.” Some repetition of “development,” “meeting” and “pay” also limits flexibility. Choose more precise collocations and check spelling carefully: for instance, describe “unnecessary flights,” “commercial flights,” and a solution as “beneficial to individuals.” This would make your meaning clearer and your vocabulary more natural for an academic argument.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “that,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors nevertheless affect clarity and control. For example, “the environment in positively” has an incorrect adverb pattern, while “Technology has made it easier for them that do not pay money” has an unclear clause structure. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence completion, particularly in the final line, “The disadvantag.” Practise building accurate complex sentences and check that each sentence has a complete, correctly linked clause. For example: “Technology makes it easier for employees to attend meetings online without paying for travel.”
