Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, some people have chosen to limit the number of times they fly or avoiding flight completely. Although, it would cause problem for some people and businesses. However, the benefits of this appraoch far outweigh the drawbacks as it has positive impact on the environment by reducing the effect of climate change.

The main advantage of this approach is reducing the amount of carbon emitted in the ecosystem. As aircrafts use a large amount of fuel, specially for long journeys, limiting the number of flights has a positive influence on the environment experiencing global warming from few years due to increased carbon emission. People can choose other ways of travel for short distances and businessmen can utilize the online platforms for organizing meetings. Although, this step alone will not enough to totally eradicate the carbon footprints from the earth but still a positive development toward a sustainable future.

However, this will cause problem for people who live in other countries for studies and work purposes to meet their families. Moreover, as many business meeting prefer face to face interaction to interact with dealers, build trust with the organization and making important decision regarding contracts. This can be solved by booking flights only for important events and avoiding unwanted travel. It will also effect the economy of the countries whose relay heavily on tourism. These international flights bring foreign tourists to them, thus tour operators, air hostresses will lose their jobs and restraunts wil be closed.

In conclusion, while there will be problems for some people and businesses to operate that can be overcome by other sustainable ways. This development will reduce the amount of carbon emitted in our atmosphere that contribute to the global warming a major concern for people living on earth..

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you believe the environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages, and you address effects on individuals, businesses and tourism. The explanation that fewer flights reduce carbon emissions is relevant, while alternatives such as online meetings and reserving flights for important events help support your argument. You also recognise costs, including family separation and job losses in tourism. This meets the task well, but some points are less fully developed than others: for example, the impact on tourism is asserted without an example or explanation of how substantial it might be, and the environmental case could explain more directly how reduced flying leads to lower emissions. More specific support and fuller comparison of the two sides would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs present benefits and drawbacks, and the conclusion returns to your position. Linking expressions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the argument. The progression is generally understandable, but cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and some connections between ideas are abrupt. For instance, the discussion moves from business meetings to the economy and tourism without clearly explaining how these points relate. The opening also uses “Although” and “However” in a way that makes the relationship between the clauses awkward. Grouping related disadvantages and using clearer references between sentences would make the argument flow more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “carbon emitted,” “sustainable future,” “face to face interaction,” and “tourism,” which makes the main ideas clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “carbon footprints” and “foreign tourists.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, including “aircrafts,” “effect of climate change,” and “air hostresses.” Spelling slips such as “appraoch,” “restraunts,” and “wil” also reduce accuracy. These errors do not prevent understanding, but more consistent control of common environmental and business collocations would make the writing more precise and natural. Proofreading for spelling and choosing standard forms would help.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “Although this step alone…” and a relative clause in “countries whose relay heavily on tourism.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “Although, it would cause problem” is an incomplete and incorrectly punctuated clause, while “this step alone will not enough” is missing a verb form. There are also agreement and article errors in “many business meeting prefer” and “a major concern.” The final sentence has an unclear clause structure, making the relationship between emissions and global warming difficult to follow. Check clause completeness, subject–verb agreement, and articles, especially when combining several ideas in one sentence.
