Do you think the environmental benefits of this development outweigh the disadvantages for individuals and businesses?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is believe that reducing the number of flight or stop flying altogether is beneficial for the environment. I agree that the environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages for individual and businesses.
The main reason why environment get benefits from prohibiting flying altoghether is that it reduces carbon emission. Planes burns alot of fuel and produce greenhouse gases, which causes the climate change. For instance, a passenger who takes a train for short travel instead of plane will produce small amount of pollution as compared to plane. Therefore, restricting regular flight can be beneficial for the environment.
There are several disadvantages for the individual and the businesses. A lot of people lives abroad for high quality education. By restricting flying it will we hard for abroad people to visit their family regularly. For instance, a student in abroad may see his parents once a year instead of twice. However, this negative consequence can be reduced by video calling their parents regularly. In addition, Tourism and airline will suffer because less people will purchase their air ticked. Fewer travelers means fewer customers for hotels, airlines, and guides. For instance, a hotel in a tourist town has fewer guests so staff may loose their job. However, the transport industry can create new jobs (rail, electric transport), and local tourism can grow.
In conclusion, although reducing the flight number has some drawbacks such as meeting parents once a year and staff of a tourist hotel may loose their job,it can be overcome by video calling their parents or creating new jobs in the transport industry .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that environmental benefits outweigh the disadvantages, and the conclusion maintains this view. You address both sides with relevant points, including reduced emissions, family visits, and effects on tourism-related businesses. The train comparison and the example of hotel staff losing jobs help make the discussion concrete. To develop the response further, explain more fully why the environmental gains outweigh these costs—for example, how reduced aviation emissions compare with the economic and personal impacts, or why alternatives can realistically compensate. Some points, such as creating new transport jobs and growing local tourism, are introduced but not supported with detail. This gives the response a solid, relevant argument, though its development is uneven.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on environmental benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages and possible alternatives, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “For instance,” “However,” and “In addition” help show examples and contrasts. The main limitation is that some connections feel mechanical or under-explained. For example, the shift from the impact on families to video calling is abrupt, and the final sentence repeats several points from the body rather than synthesising the argument. The reference in “this negative consequence” is understandable, but the conclusion’s “it” could refer more clearly to the disadvantages or the reduction in flights. More varied transitions and clearer links between claims and explanations would improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “carbon emission,” “greenhouse gases,” “climate change,” “tourism,” and “transport industry,” so the main ideas are communicated. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “restricting regular flight” and “local tourism can grow.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors are noticeable: “a lot of fuel,” “air ticked,” “loose their job,” and “flight number” are not accurate or natural in context. “Environment get benefits” and “high quality education” also need more idiomatic phrasing. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and fluency. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for aviation, emissions, travel alternatives, and economic effects.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “Planes burns …, which causes the climate change” and a conditional-style explanation of the hotel’s situation. Most sentences remain understandable, but grammatical errors recur in verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction. Examples include “It is believe,” “environment get benefits,” “Planes burns,” and “A lot of people lives.” The phrase “By restricting flying it will we hard” also shows an unsuccessful attempt to form a complex sentence. Punctuation and spacing need attention in the conclusion, where there is no space after the comma. Aim to make the basic sentence patterns consistently accurate, then practise complex clauses with correct subject–verb agreement and article use.
