Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary world, aviation has become a significant mode of travel. many people acknowledge that reducing the number of times they fly every year or stop flying altogether can signficantly contribute in environment conservation. I firmly believe that the disadvantages for individuals and businesses in the reducing number of flights strongly outweigh the advantages for environment.

To begin with, decline in number of flights can adversely affect the individuals. Many businessmen have to cancel meetings and these can eventually act as a barrier in their career growth. Similarly, International students sacrifices their opportunities to visit their home in the occasion of celebration and end up lonely and depressed. Moreover, aviation businesses have to deal with major losses if the flights are not filled while take off. For instance, Air India company charts extra flights at the time of weekends and holidays and they have to deal with severe loss if people are not booking tickets.

On the other hand, decline in flights can be advantageous to the environment. Air pollution caused by the emission from flight will be reduced if people choose to avoid taking flights. Nevertheless, the contribution in improving the environment is marginal and not effective as other solutions such as recycling and afforestation. For example, The emissions from flights are low on comparison with the environmental damage made by other transport services . Thus , athough this can be a crucial step in environment conservation, the drawbacks on individuals and businesses

outweigh it .

In conclusion, although reducing flight services can be a crucial step in environment conservation, the drawbacks such as business and personal losses on indivuals sigmificantly outweigh the advantages it has on individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you argue that the disadvantages for individuals and businesses outweigh the environmental benefits, and you address both sides of the question. The examples about business meetings, international students, and Air India help make the disadvantages relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that aviation’s environmental contribution is “marginal” is not supported with evidence, and the comparison with other transport services is unclear. The business example also focuses on unfilled flights without explaining how fewer flights specifically cause the stated losses. Develop these links and make the environmental comparison more precise. The response meets the stated length requirement; the nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the first body paragraph presents disadvantages, the second considers environmental benefits, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some stronger control through clear paragraphing and a logical sequence. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, and some connections between claims are not fully clear. For example, “Nevertheless” introduces a limitation, but the following comparison with other transport services does not clearly establish why aviation’s impact is marginal. Use more precise referencing and explain the relationship between each example and your main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “aviation,” “career growth,” “emission,” and “afforestation,” and your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “adversely affect” and “contribute in environment conservation.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “contribute in,” “flights are not filled while take off,” and “charts extra flights.” Spelling errors such as “signficantly,” “athough,” “indivuals,” and “sigmificantly” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but more reliable collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “if people choose to avoid taking flights” and “if the flights are not filled.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “International students sacrifices” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “in the occasion of celebration” and “the drawbacks on individuals” show problems with articles and prepositions. The opening sentence also begins “many” with a lowercase letter after a full stop, and the final sentence has an unclear construction: “the advantages it has on individuals.” Work on agreement, articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
