Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagrams illustrates the various stages involved in the process of manufacturing fabric from bamboo.
Overall, it is clear that the process conists of nine main stages, beginning with planting bamboo plants in the field and ending with making different types clothes such as shocks, vest and t-shirt. It is a linear process.
In the first stage, Farmers grow bamboo plants in the field in spring season. Then, bamboo plants is harvested by farmers in Autumn season. After that , bamboo plants is cut into strips by using a machine. Following this , strips are crushed to make a liquid pulp. Once this process has been completed, long fibres are separated from liquid by filtering process.
In the next stage, water and amine oxide are added into fibres to make it soft. Subsequently, soft fibres are spinned to make yarn. Then after, yarn is used to make weave. Finally, weave is used to make different varities of clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers the full process and gives a clear overview: it identifies nine stages, the seasonal planting and harvesting, and the transformation from bamboo to clothing. The sequence from cutting and crushing through filtering, softening, spinning and weaving is generally accurate. This meets the task well, while the overview and some later details could be more precise. For example, the final stage is described only as making “different varieties of clothes”; the diagram specifically shows finished clothing items, including a T-shirt and socks. Also, “yarn is used to make weave” is unclear: the process shows yarn being woven into fabric, followed by the production of clothing. State these final stages explicitly to make the account more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is organised into an introduction, an overview and two chronological paragraphs, and the reader can follow the process from cultivation to finished products. Sequencing expressions such as “In the first stage,” “Once this process has been completed” and “Finally” help guide the reader. The progression is mostly clear, though some linking is mechanical or awkward: “Then after” repeats the sequencing function, and “Following this” is followed by inconsistent spacing and punctuation. The middle and final stages would also be easier to follow if the relationship between yarn, fabric and clothing were stated directly. Use a smaller range of precise transitions and ensure each sentence connects clearly to the next stage.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is adequate process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibres,” “filtering” and “yarn,” which allows the main stages to be communicated. The response also attempts more specific terms such as “amine oxide.” However, several word choices or forms are inaccurate or imprecise: “spinned” should be “spun,” “make weave” does not naturally describe producing fabric, and “varities” is misspelled. “Shocks” is likely intended to mean “socks,” while “different types clothes” needs a more natural construction. Choose standard process collocations such as “weave the yarn into fabric” and check spelling and word forms carefully. This would make the description more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses both simple sentences and some more complex structures, including “Once this process has been completed” and “beginning with … and ending with …”. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction remain. For example, “The diagrams illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “bamboo plants is harvested” should use a plural verb or a singular subject. The phrase “in spring season” needs an article or a more natural seasonal construction, and “different types clothes” is missing a grammatical link. There are also spacing and punctuation slips around commas. Review agreement and article use, and proofread each sentence; more consistently accurate structures would strengthen the response.
