Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The figure depicts fabric manufactured from bamboo.
Overall, it can be seen that the process by which fabric is manufactured from bamboo is a multistep lineal process which consists nine main stages, plant bamboo, collection, cut into pieces, crushed strips made liquid pulp, sorting, soften fibres which mixed water & amine oxide, spined, weave for make fabric and distribution.
In the first stage, plant bamboo growed in the spring and they are taken into collection in autumn. After resulting plant where they cutted into strips. As a result the bamboo crush strips for making liquid as pulp.
Moving to the remaining stages, resulting liquid are taken to the sorting process where they separated long fibres form liquid. Afterward, Mixing the water and amine oxide for doing it soften fibres for spinned so that fabric became yarn. Additionally, Weave did made the fabric and after they taken to the distribution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the diagram as a process and give a broad overview of its stages, including planting, harvesting, processing the fibres, spinning and weaving. However, the overview is not fully accurate: it calls the process “distribution,” although the final step shows finished clothing, and it lists nine stages but does not clearly describe the final clothing stage. Some details are also unclear or misrepresented, such as saying the bamboo is “taken into collection” and describing the liquid as being sorted rather than filtered to separate long fibres. The response is one word below the required minimum. To strengthen the report, cover the complete sequence accurately and distinguish the filtering and softening stages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the stages. The sequence is generally easy to follow, and transitions such as “In the first stage” and “Moving to the remaining stages” help signal progression. However, the overview compresses many steps into a confusing list, and the final paragraph’s links between filtering, softening, spinning and weaving are not always clear. For example, “Afterward, Mixing…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence, while “Additionally” introduces the final stages without clarifying their order. Use one clear sequence marker for each stage and keep the overview separate from detailed process steps.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “harvesting,” “strips,” “liquid pulp,” “fibres,” “yarn” and “weave,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the process difficult to interpret. “Sorting” is less precise than “filtering,” “spined” should be “spun,” and “distribution” does not match the diagram’s final image of clothing. Phrases such as “taken into collection” and “for doing it soften fibres” are also unnatural. Aim for precise verbs that match each diagram label, and use standard process collocations such as “the fibres are softened” and “the yarn is woven into fabric.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the process by which fabric is manufactured” and a result clause beginning “so that.” However, many sentences contain errors in verb forms, agreement, or sentence construction, and these sometimes make the sequence hard to understand. Examples include “bamboo growed,” “they cutted,” “resulting liquid are taken,” and “Weave did made the fabric.” The overview also has an incomplete construction in “consists nine main stages.” Practise consistent passive forms for a process description, such as “the bamboo is harvested,” “the strips are crushed,” and “the fabric is woven.” Check subject–verb agreement and use complete, correctly linked clauses.
