Student answer (Band 5.0)

The diagram illustrate the process by which bamboo fabric is made.

Overall, It can be seen that the process by which fabric is made is a multistep lenear process , which consists of three main stages: Collection, processing, and production.

In the first stage, bamboo is planted during spring and then harvested in autumn season of the year. During that short period it became ready for collecting for further processing. Therefore, plants are cut by machineries, which is

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The opening identifies the topic, and the overview recognises that this is a multistep process with stages. However, the response stops during the first stage and does not report the central manufacturing steps shown: crushing the strips, filtering and softening the fibres, spinning yarn, weaving fabric, and producing clothing. The claim that bamboo is cut by machinery is relevant, but the sentence is unfinished, so the account does not explain what happens next. The response also contains only 78 words, below the required 150, leaving most of the diagram unaddressed. To improve, complete the process in sequence and give a concise overview that captures the progression from planting to finished garments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic organisational structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph beginning with the first stage. Sequencing phrases such as “In the first stage” and “then” help show the order of the initial events. However, the response ends abruptly at “which is,” so the progression is incomplete and the reader cannot follow the process beyond harvesting and cutting. The overview’s three-stage grouping is not developed in the body, and “Therefore” does not clearly express the relationship between the preceding information and the cutting step. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the process stages, and connect each step with clear, accurate sequencing language.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses some relevant process vocabulary, including “harvested,” “processing,” and “machineries,” and “multistep” conveys the general nature of the diagram. However, the range is limited because the account covers only the opening stages, and some choices are inaccurate or awkward: “Collection” is not the clearest label for the first stage, while “machineries” is not the natural term for the equipment used. “Lenear” is also misspelled, and “short period” is vague rather than a precise description of the seasonal interval. Aim to use the diagram’s specific verbs and nouns, such as “crush,” “filter,” “fibres,” “spin,” and “weave,” and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mix of sentence forms, including the overview sentence with a relative clause and the sequence “bamboo is planted … and then harvested.” Meaning is generally understandable in the completed sentences. However, there are some errors in agreement, articles, tense, and punctuation: “The diagram illustrate” should use a singular verb, “Overall, It” has incorrect capitalisation, and “in autumn season” needs an article or a different construction. “It became ready” shifts to past tense without a clear reason, and the final sentence is unfinished, preventing the structure from being assessed fully. Use consistent present simple for a process description and proofread sentence boundaries and agreement.
