The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The diagram demonstrates the manufacturing process of fabric from bamboo in nine steps.

Overall, the whole process of making fabric consists of nine steps, including step 1 as planting the bamboo and later harvesting it, and after a few steps, yarn is produced, which is later woven to make some clothes as the last step of the diagram.

The process starts when a bamboo plant is planted in the ground in Spring. The plant is then harvested in autumn by the farmer and this plant is cut into small strips using a cutter. Afterwards, the strips are crushed to generate liquid pulp out of them, which further goes through a filtration process in which the long fibres are separated from the liquid with the help of filters.

Later on, water and amine oxide are added as a softener to the fibres. This leads to step seven where the fibres are spun together to transform it into yarn. In step 8, the process of weaving the yarn together starts to produce the fabric, and finally in the last process fabric leads to manufacturing of t-shirts and socks and other clothing.
