Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 81 words. Consequently, the description of the manufacturing process is incomplete and lacks the necessary detail to fully address the task. While the student attempts to outline the steps, the summary is fragmented and fails to report on the entire process shown in the diagram. The lack of development and the failure to reach the required length significantly impact the score, as the response is only a partial attempt at the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear structure or logical progression. There is no paragraphing, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal and often inaccurate (e.g., 'All over', 'next one all mix'). The sentences are disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the sequence of the manufacturing process. The lack of transition words and the abrupt ending further hinder the flow of information. To improve, the student should focus on using clear linking words to connect ideas and organizing the information into distinct paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms such as 'steps', 'make', and 'mix'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'prosses' instead of 'process', and word choice issues, such as 'gardener' to describe someone harvesting bamboo. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe a technical process effectively. The student needs to expand their range of vocabulary by learning specific terms related to industrial processes and manufacturing to convey information more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with verb tense and voice, such as 'fabric has made by bamboo' instead of 'fabric is made from bamboo'. Sentence structure is consistently weak, with many fragments and run-on sentences. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. The lack of complex sentence structures and the high frequency of basic errors indicate a very limited control of grammar, which makes the text difficult to read.
