Student answer (Band 5.0)

The diagram illustrates the process of how fabric manufactured from bamboo.

Overall, the method consist of nine steps began with planting of the bamboo plants and finishing with formation of product like cloths and socks.

Firstly, it starts with planting of bamboo plants in the spring season which later harvest in the autumn at the plant maturing stage. Next process involve removing of outer layer called strips with a cutter blade. Now these are furthered crushed into small pieces to produce liquid pulp which undergo to a filter to separate the long fibres from liquid. Next step include adding water and amine oxide to soften the fibres. It result in giving a thread like material(spin) to make yam and these are used to weave to make the fabric. Finishing stage give us the final products like clothes, socks and jackets.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from planting to the final product. However, it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the overview is present, the description of the process is somewhat rushed and lacks the necessary detail to fully develop the response. The failure to reach the minimum length means the response is under-developed, preventing it from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should expand on the descriptions of each stage, perhaps by adding more detail about the transformation of the raw material.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into a logical sequence, moving chronologically through the manufacturing process. Paragraphing is used, though the body paragraph is quite dense. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Next', and 'Finally' are used to guide the reader, but the flow is occasionally mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the lack of sufficient length makes the overall progression feel somewhat abrupt. To improve, ensure that you use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sequential markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. You use basic terms like 'small pieces' and 'liquid pulp' which are functional but not sophisticated. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'method consist' (should be 'consists') and 'make yam' (likely 'yarn'). The range is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common or technical vocabulary related to industrial processes. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise terminology would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the method consist of' (subject-verb agreement), 'began with planting' (should be 'beginning'), and 'these are furthered crushed' (incorrect passive voice). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for describing processes in Task 1. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help.
