The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given process illustrates how bamboo is used to produce fabrics.

Overall, the process involves 9 steps. It is observed that over the seasons, the bamboo is harvested and brought in, it then goes through several processes, and the final product is obtained.

To begin with, the plantation of bamboo starts in the spring season. Throughout the year, it is then harvested during the autumn season. The bamboo sticks are then cut down into strips. Further, these strips are crushed to prepare a liquid pulp. After the pulp is extracted, it goes through filtration, where the liquid and long fibers are separated.

From step 6, we can infer that the obtained fibers are then softened by adding water and amine oxide into it. The softened fibers are then spun to make yarn. Lastly, the yarn is woven to make fabric before becoming the final product.
