Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from harvesting to the final product. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the process as a whole, which is a key requirement for Task 1. The inclusion of personal commentary, such as 'I am summarizing this information' and 'buyers are also ready for purchasing', is inappropriate for an academic report. The description of the stages is generally accurate, but it lacks the analytical tone required for this task type. To improve, focus on describing the process objectively without personal interjections and ensure a clear summary of the overall transformation is provided in the introduction or conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. For example, 'In next step' and 'Then weaving step has arrived' feel unnatural and repetitive. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is disjointed. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow the process, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the reliance on simple, repetitive structures limit the score. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring smoother transitions between the stages of the process would significantly enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and occasionally inaccurate. Phrases like 'fully in mature condition' and 'prevalent in the market' are used in ways that do not fit the context of a process description. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'yam' instead of 'yarn' and 'crush strips' instead of 'crushed strips'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles to use precise terminology related to industrial manufacturing. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary and improving the accuracy of word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes impede clarity. Examples include 'the procedure of fabric in which is made from the bamboo' (incorrect relative clause) and 'Its harvest done in autumn' (missing verb). There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'diversity of steps are helpful' and 'fabric is prepare'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be highly beneficial.
