The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates the multi-step procedure for manufacturing fabric from bamboo.

To begin with, bamboo is a seasonal crop, so it does not cultivate throughout the year. The bamboo plantations are carried out during spring and are harvested when they finally reach their mature stage, during autumn. The harvesting is preferably done manually. The bamboo sticks are then trimmed into fragments or strips, before crushing them to extract liquid pulp.

Moreover, fibres containing pulp is filtered using a filtration unit, to separate the long fibres. These fibres are then softened by a addition of water and amine oxide, to produce soft threads. Yarn is made out of them by spinning before weaving them into fabric, which is supplied to garment manufactures to produce various fashionable attires.

Overall, the given diagram displays the method of producing fabric, beginning with the cultivation of bamboo crop as its raw material and ending with the production of fabric as a finished product ready for market supply.
