Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the response attempts to cover the steps in the diagram, the description is overly simplistic and lacks the necessary detail to fully explain the process. The overview is weak, and the response fails to highlight the main features or make meaningful comparisons between the stages. Because the response is under-length and lacks sufficient development of the information provided in the diagram, it does not adequately address the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into short paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is mechanical and lacks a natural flow. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Afterwards', 'Furthermore', 'Then'). There is a lack of variety in linking words, and the connection between sentences is often abrupt. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group the stages of the process in a logical or sophisticated manner, making the overall structure feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on words taken directly from the prompt (e.g., 'bamboo', 'fabric', 'liquid', 'pulp'). There is very little attempt to use a wider range of vocabulary or to paraphrase the process effectively. Errors in word choice and spelling are present, such as 'yam' instead of 'yarn' and 'seperating' instead of 'separating'. The range is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands, as the writer struggles to describe the technical aspects of the manufacturing process with precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Frequent grammatical errors are present, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('bamboo were cut', 'clothes are manufacture'), missing articles ('in the last'), and incorrect punctuation (missing spaces after commas). These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The control over basic grammar is inconsistent, and the lack of complex structures prevents the demonstration of a wider grammatical range.
