Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The following image gives information about how fabric is manufactured from bamboo from plantation till the clothes.
Making of fabric starts from bamboo plants which are planted in the spring season. Bamboo are harvested in the autumn. Firstly, they are cut into strips with the help of saw. Secondly, the strips are crushed to make a liquid pulp. Afterwards, there is a filter which separates long fibres from liquid. Furthermore, fibres softners like amine oxide and water are added to soften the fibres.
Afterwards, it is spin to make yarn which helps to make fabric. Moreover, the yarn is weaved to make fabric which can also be dyed into different colours and shades. Lastly, this fabric is use to make various types of clothes which includes socks, shirts, sweaters and many more.
In conclusion, this diagram gives a lot of useful information about the process of producing clothes from bamboo plants, which is also a very eco-friendly practice.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main stages of the bamboo fabric manufacturing process, from plantation to the final product. However, the overview is somewhat weak; it describes the process but lacks a clear summary of the key features or trends. The description follows the diagram logically, but some stages are described in a slightly simplistic manner. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant aspects of the process rather than just stating what the diagram shows. The inclusion of personal opinion regarding the 'eco-friendly' nature of the process is unnecessary for an Academic Task 1 report, which should remain objective and focused solely on the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized, moving chronologically through the manufacturing stages. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Afterwards', and 'Moreover' helps to guide the reader through the process. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is present, but the conclusion is quite brief and adds information not found in the diagram. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, covering the necessary technical steps like 'harvested', 'crushed', 'liquid pulp', and 'dyed'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and form, such as 'fibres softners' (should be 'fiber softeners') and 'it is spin' (should be 'it is spun'). The range is somewhat limited, relying on basic verbs. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to industrial processes and ensure correct word forms are used consistently throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'Bamboo are harvested' (subject-verb agreement), 'this fabric is use' (should be 'used'), and 'which includes socks' (should be 'which include'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice—which is essential for process descriptions—will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
