Student answer (Band 5.5)
The process diagram illustrates different stages manufacturing of fabric from bamboo.
Overall, this process consists of nine various steps initially, involve the growing of bamboo plant in the spring season and then, go through a series end up on making of clothes.
Following the first step, the plant has been harvested by the farmer once in a while in autumn nevertheless, the plant cut into strips by harvesting machines and then followed by crushing them into strips in fourth step then, further lead into separator where long fibers from the liquid is separated through filteration and obtain in the form of soft fibers. By operating in spinning, water and amine oxide is added into the soft fibers to make yarn at suitable conditions then, weave to make knitted like fabric that lastly, ready to used to make formal or casual clothes.
In conclusion, this is time consuming process that passes through variable conditions even so, it is quite efficient method.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from harvesting to the final product. However, the description is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear, logical flow between the steps. While the overview identifies the process as having nine steps, the body paragraph struggles to clearly delineate these stages, leading to a confusing narrative. The inclusion of subjective commentary like 'time consuming' and 'efficient' is not appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which should remain objective and focused solely on the data or process provided in the diagram.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into an introduction, a body paragraph, and a conclusion, but the internal cohesion is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'nevertheless' and 'even so,' which do not fit the context of describing a manufacturing process. The sentence structure is often run-on, with multiple steps linked by 'and then' or 'then,' which makes the progression difficult to follow. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of logical transition between the stages of the process hinders the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision required for a technical process description. There are several awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'knitted like fabric' and 'ready to used.' The range is limited, and the student relies on repetitive phrasing like 'steps' and 'strips.' To reach a higher band, the student should use more precise technical terminology related to manufacturing and industrial processes, and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb tense consistency and sentence structure. There are several run-on sentences where multiple clauses are incorrectly joined, such as 'the plant has been harvested... nevertheless, the plant cut into strips...'. Subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction are often inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are frequently faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The frequent errors in punctuation and grammar occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the process sequence.
