Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from cultivation to the final product. The overview is clear, identifying the nine stages and the general nature of the process. However, the summary could be improved by highlighting key comparisons or distinct phases more effectively. While the main features are reported, the description of the process is somewhat mechanical, listing steps rather than synthesizing the information into a cohesive narrative. The inclusion of specific details like 'spring' and 'autumn' demonstrates a good grasp of the provided diagram, meeting the requirements for a clear summary of the process.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs detailing the process. Cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'Following this', 'Next', and 'Finally' are used to guide the reader through the stages. However, some transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with punctuation around these devices, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Next, bamboo'). Despite these minor mechanical errors, the progression of ideas is easy to follow and the paragraphing is appropriate for a process description.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'cultivation', 'harvested', 'liquid pulp', and 'woven' used correctly. There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'consistent of' instead of 'consists of' and 'made clothes' instead of 'finished clothing'. The student attempts to use specific terminology related to the process, which is positive. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies that, while not impeding communication, prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More precise collocations would enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('farmer planted' instead of 'farmers plant'), preposition errors ('by bamboo' instead of 'from bamboo'), and spelling/typographical errors ('stripes' instead of 'strips', 'Thecyarn'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding spacing after commas. While the meaning remains clear throughout, the frequency of these errors indicates that the student has not yet achieved full control over complex structures. A more careful proofreading would help to eliminate these persistent minor slips.
