Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given diagram illustrates the process of making fabric by the use of bamboo.

Overall, fabrics are produced by passing of bamboo plants from ninth various stages. Spring is favorable month for planting while autumn is mainly for harvesting.

Firstly, growing season for plant is Spring while farmers harvest bamboo plants during autumn, next step is cutting of strips by the use of special cutter matchin. After liquid pulp the following stage is separation of larg fibers from liquid and then addition of water and amino oxide to become soften fibers. Furthermore, formation of yam structure and directly transfer to weave to make schet of fabric. The final stage is to produce products from these fabrics.

In conclusion, bamboo plants play a key role commercially because its important for fabric production. Those counties which have favorable production season and facilities for bamboo plants then they may earn lot of profits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from planting to the final product. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview of the transformation process. While the key stages are identified, the connection between the chemical processing (liquid pulp, amino oxide) and the physical transformation (softening fibers, weaving) is not fully explained, making the summary feel like a list rather than a cohesive report. The inclusion of an 'Overall' paragraph is good, but the content is slightly repetitive. To improve, focus on grouping the stages more logically—such as cultivation, chemical processing, and final manufacturing—to provide a more structured summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into four short paragraphs, which is a standard structure. However, the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. For instance, the transition from 'liquid pulp' to 'separation of larg fibers' lacks clear cohesive markers, making the sequence feel abrupt. While some linking words like 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the connection back to the diagram is lost. Improving the use of cohesive devices to show the relationship between the stages would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of awkward phrasing and minor errors. Examples include 'cutter matchin' (spelling error), 'larg fibers' (spelling error), and 'yam structure' (likely a typo for 'yarn'). The phrase 'by the use of' is repeated, which limits the range of expression. While the student successfully uses technical terms like 'amino oxide' and 'liquid pulp', the overall control of vocabulary is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on more precise collocations and ensure spelling accuracy for technical terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('growing season for plant is Spring'), incorrect preposition usage ('making fabric by the use of bamboo'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('Those counties which have... then they may earn'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of minor errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and article usage would be beneficial.
