Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The fabric is manufactured by bamboo plants. Overall, there are nine stages, beginning with planting bamboo in spring and ending with the production of fabric and clothes . The process involve both mechanical and chemical treatment of the bamboo. First, bamboo plants are growing in spring and harvested in autumn. The harvested bamboo is then cut into strips, which are subsequently crushed to produce a liquid pulp. Next the liquid pulp is filterd to seperate the long fibres from the liquid. After that, the fibres are softened by adding water and amine oxide. In the following stages the softened fibres are spun to form yarn . The yarn is then woven to produce fabric is used to make different clothes items such as , shirts socks etc. Oeverall, the process transfer bamboo plants into the usable fabric through a several steps involving cutting, crushing, filtering , cleaning , softening, spinning and weaving.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response successfully identifies the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from planting to the final product. You have provided a clear overview and followed the sequence of the diagram logically. However, the task requires a more detailed summary of the 'main features' and 'comparisons'. For instance, you could have elaborated on the distinction between the mechanical and chemical stages or noted that the process is cyclical in nature. While you have covered the requirements, the description remains somewhat superficial, lacking the depth needed for a higher band. To improve, ensure you highlight the most significant transformations in the process rather than just listing every step.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized, moving chronologically through the process. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Next', 'After that', and 'In the following stages' to guide the reader. However, the paragraphing is somewhat inconsistent, with a very short final paragraph that feels disconnected. Additionally, some transitions are a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraph structure is balanced, perhaps grouping the mechanical stages and chemical stages into distinct, well-developed paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the process, such as 'manufactured', 'harvested', 'crushed', and 'spun'. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'filterd' and 'seperate', and minor inaccuracies in word choice, like 'clothes items' instead of 'clothing items'. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher score. To improve, focus on using more precise technical terminology related to manufacturing processes and ensure your spelling is accurate throughout.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'The process involve' (subject-verb agreement), 'bamboo plants are growing' (incorrect tense usage for a process description), and 'fabric is used' (missing relative pronoun). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that you use the present simple tense consistently when describing a factual process. Reviewing basic sentence construction will help reduce these frequent errors.
