IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The generation of fabric from bamboo is illuustrated by given process chart.
Overall, it is clear that thera have 8 steps for manufacture the fabric, commencing with springing of plant and end up with make cloths.
To begin with the first step of this process, plants are growed in soil and waiting for harvest. After that, the plants are harvested by people =and send to cutter for cutting the bamboo in small strips. Next step, strips are crushed by machine for byproduct in the form of liquid pulp.
The product has been put into filteration machine to saperate the long fibres from liquid. The water and amine oxide are added with soften fibre. After that, the spinig activity is occured to make the yam from fibre. The weaves are made by yam and the process ends with these fibre cloths and socks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from raw material to finished product. However, it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While the overview is present, the description of the process is somewhat mechanical and lacks the depth required for a higher band. The summary of the main features is clear, but the under-length nature of the response means that some aspects of the process are described too briefly, preventing a fully developed response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into a logical sequence, following the steps of the diagram. There is a clear introduction and a body paragraph. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and repetitive (e.g., 'To begin with', 'After that', 'Next step'). The paragraphing is also insufficient, as the entire process description is crammed into a single paragraph. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the structure is more balanced, perhaps by separating the initial processing stages from the later chemical and manufacturing stages.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate to describe the process, but it is quite basic and contains several errors in word choice and spelling. For instance, 'illuustrated', 'thera', 'growed', 'saperate', 'spinig', and 'yam' (instead of yarn) indicate a lack of precision. There is little evidence of less common or sophisticated vocabulary. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on using more precise technical terms related to manufacturing processes and ensure that your spelling is accurate, as these errors occasionally distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'plants are growed' (passive voice error), 'the process ends with these fibre cloths' (awkward phrasing), and 'the spinig activity is occured' (incorrect verb usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after punctuation marks. The range of structures is limited, and the errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. Focusing on correct passive voice construction and subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your accuracy.
