Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The diagram illustrates the manufacturing process of fabric from bamboo plants.
Overall, the process is consist of nine main stages which start with planting bamboo trees and end with the uses of fabric.
In the beginning of this process, bamboo plants have to be planted during the season of spring. Later in autumn, the bamboo becomes suitable for harvesting. Then in third stage it cut into strips through a cutting machine. After that, these strips are crushed to make liquid pulp.
In the fifth step of this process, a filtering process is use to separate long fiber from liquid. At the next stage, the fiber is softened in the presence of water and amine oxide. Thereafter, the soften fibers are spin to make yam and than the fibers are woven to make fabric. Finally, the fabric is suitable to make outfits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from planting to the final product. However, it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the overview is present, the description of the process is somewhat mechanical and lacks the necessary detail or synthesis to fully develop the response. The failure to reach the minimum length means the task is not fully addressed, as the description remains too brief to provide a comprehensive summary of the diagram.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised logically, following the chronological order of the process. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In the beginning', 'Later', 'Then', 'After that', and 'Finally' helps to guide the reader through the stages. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire response is presented as two very short paragraphs, which does not allow for a clear structure. The flow is generally clear, but the lack of development and the brevity of the text make the overall progression feel somewhat abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with terms like 'manufacturing process', 'harvesting', 'liquid pulp', and 'amine oxide' used correctly. However, the range is limited and there are some inaccuracies, such as 'uses of fabric' (should be 'uses of the fabric' or 'final products') and 'soften fibers are spin' (should be 'softened fibers are spun'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the process is consist of', 'a filtering process is use') and incorrect verb forms ('soften fibers are spin', 'than the fibers are woven'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on ensuring consistent verb tenses and correct passive voice construction.
