The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of bamboo fabric, how it can be obtain from bamboo.

Overall, the bamboo fabric consists of nine stages, starting with the plantation stage and ending up with the generate of socks and shirts and supply all over the world. Therefore, the procedure contains plantation, cutting, filtering and goes into crushing machine and making weave fabric.

Furthermore, to begin with planting the bamboo plants in spring season and then farmer harvesting the bamboo plants in autumn season after some months. Moreover, the next stage is plants into cutting strips machine and also go through crushing strips to make liquid pulp gently. However, in the fifth stage crushing material go into filtrating method to separate long fibres form liquid rapidly. In the sixth stage, the soften fibres is generates, in the meantime added water and amine oxide in it. In addition, the next step rolling the soften fibres into spin to make yam. In the second last step the weave to make soft fabric. Ultimately, the fabric is obtain and then generates various socks and shirts for supplying.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from plantation to the final product. However, the overview is slightly repetitive, and the description of the stages lacks the precision required for a higher band. For instance, the transition from 'crushing' to 'filtrating' is described, but the technical nature of the process (e.g., the chemical treatment) is not fully explained. The response identifies the main features, but the lack of a clear, concise summary of the overall process flow limits the score. The information is generally accurate, but the presentation is somewhat mechanical.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the sequence of events. However, the use of cohesive devices is often awkward or repetitive. Phrases like 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' are used at the start of almost every sentence, which creates a mechanical feel rather than a natural flow. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as 'the soften fibres is generates', which disrupts the logical progression of the process description. The paragraphing is present but could be more effectively used to group the stages of the process logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and occasionally inaccurate. There are several instances of incorrect word forms, such as 'generate' instead of 'generation', 'obtain' instead of 'obtained', and 'yam' instead of 'yarn'. The student relies on basic verbs and nouns to describe the process. While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main steps of the diagram, it lacks the precision and variety needed for a higher band. There is a noticeable lack of technical terminology appropriate for describing a manufacturing process.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement. For example, 'the bamboo fabric consists of nine stages... and ending up with the generate of socks' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with sentence structure, such as 'the procedure contains plantation, cutting, filtering and goes into crushing machine'. The use of complex sentences is attempted, but they are often faulty, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. Simple structures are used more successfully, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent.
