IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The process gives the details about how fabric is made by using the bamboo.
Overall, the process involved with nine stages, start with cultivating the bamboo plants and ends with final fabric products such as tshirt and socks after extensive learnier, multi- stage sequence.
Regarding the plantation process to preparing for the main production source. It begins with planting the bamboo and it grows until springs come up, and the harvest is happened during the autumn season. Harvested bamboo products are ready for the produciton before seding them to maufacturing, they should be cut into strips, which will clean the bamboo, and collect the crush strips to prepare the liquid pulp.
Manufacturing process, prapared pulp send to filtering, which
separate the long fibers from liquid and obtain the final row materials. Softening fibers, then mix with the water and amine oxide for chemical reaction which will generate the spin to make yarm. Finally weave can be transformed to fabric and the final fabric can be made by many gurments as a final product such as t-shirts and socks

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, from cultivation to the final product. However, the overview is slightly confusing, mentioning 'nine stages' which are not clearly delineated in the text. While the main features are identified, the description lacks precision in linking the stages logically. For instance, the transition from 'harvested bamboo' to 'liquid pulp' is described, but the specific chemical and mechanical steps are somewhat blurred. To improve, ensure that the overview clearly highlights the key phases (e.g., cultivation, processing, and manufacturing) and maintain a more formal, objective tone throughout the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of the process. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'Regarding the plantation process to preparing for the main production source.' The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the sequence of actions feels rushed. The use of referencing is also inconsistent, making it difficult to track the transformation of the material. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'subsequently,' 'following this,' 'as a result') would significantly enhance the logical flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors ('produciton', 'seding', 'maufacturing', 'prapared', 'row materials', 'yarm', 'gurments') that distract the reader. While the student attempts to use process-specific terminology like 'chemical reaction' and 'filtering,' the misuse of words like 'row materials' (instead of 'raw materials') and 'weave' (as a noun for the process) limits the score. To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and using precise technical vocabulary appropriate for describing industrial processes, such as 'extraction,' 'conversion,' or 'spinning.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The process gives the details about how fabric is made by using the bamboo' (unnecessary article) and 'the harvest is happened' (incorrect passive voice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction and verb tense usage prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct passive voice construction would be beneficial.
