The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates the manufacturing process of fabric from bamboo.

Overall, it is a nine-staged, man-made and linear process, which commences with the planting of bamboo plants and culminates in the production of clothes. This process involves both mechanical an chemical treatments.

To begin with, bamboo plants are planted in spring. When these are fully grown until autumn, these plants are harvest manually. Subsequently, these plants are cut into strips via a circular saw. After cutting, these strips are crushed to make liquid pulp, which is then sent for filtration to separate long fibers from liquid.

After separation, these fibers undergoes a chemical process, in which water and amine oxide are added to soften these fibers. Once this process is completed, these fibers are spun manually to make a yarn. This yarn is then woven to make fabric. Following that, this fabric is then used to make different clothes such as T-shirt and socks.
