Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While the student attempts to describe the process, the summary is incomplete and lacks sufficient detail regarding the various stages shown in the diagram. The overview is underdeveloped, and the description of the steps is fragmented and lacks the necessary clarity to fully explain the manufacturing process. Key features are mentioned, but the lack of depth and the failure to reach the required length mean the response only partially addresses the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'then' and 'after that'. The transition between steps is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the sequence of the manufacturing process. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related ideas, and the overall structure feels mechanical and lacks the flow required for a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple verbs like 'make', 'cut', and 'add'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the young plant bamboo choose' and 'ready for spin'. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to industrial processes, which limits the ability to convey information accurately. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands, and the errors occasionally cause confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('process of made', 'bamboo ready for made fabric'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('liquid who add in step 4'). Complex sentence structures are largely absent or attempted with significant errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with a lack of proper sentence boundaries. These frequent errors impede the clarity of the writing and indicate a limited control over grammatical structures.
