The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates how bamboo is used to convert it into a fabric.

Initially, the bamboo plant is grown for two seasons after which it is cut and crushed to release a type of pulp. The fibres are then mixed with some chemicals, before being spun into a yarn and woven into a fabric.

The process begins by sowing the bamboo plants in spring. After growing through all of summer it is then harvested in Autumn. Each bamboo plant is then cut into strips, and the strips are further crushed to make a liquid pulp which is then filtered to seperate the liquid from the long fibres.

Once seperated, water and amine oxide are added to the fibres to soften it enough to be able to turn it into yarn. After spinning the fibres into yarn balls, it is then used to weave different kinds of fabric. That fabric is further used to stitch various garments such as socks, t-shirts and
