The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given image illustrates how clothes are made using bamboo.

Overall, there are a total of nine steps involved in making of a fabric using bamboo. The process can be divided into two categories which are human labour and machine work. Workers plant bamboos, harvest them and later use the soften fibres to make the fabric, whereas machines turn the bamboo into the soften material used for creating clothes.

Initially, bamboo trees are planted on a large scale in spring by the factories. Subsequent to this first step, the grown trees are then harvested in autumn by the workers. After harvesting, the trunk of the tree is then passed through rollers, which cut it into strips. Afterwards, the strips are crushed to squeeze out the liquid pulp.

After getting the liquid pulp, the fibres within this liquid are pulled out. Following this seperation, water and amine oxide are added in the fibres to soften them. Next, the soften fibres are spun to make yam out of them. After making yam, it is woven to make fabric out of it. Ultimately, this fabric is used to make different clothes such as shirts and socks.
