The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing fabric from bamboo. Overall, the task involves several stages beginning with planting and harvesting of bamboo plants and ending with bamboo being transformed into fibres which are spun and weaved to make fabric. To begin with, bamboo saplings are planted in the soil in the spring season. A few months are required for the plants to develop into bamboo, after which they are harvested in the autumn season. Following this, the harvested bamboo is put through a cutter and is sliced into strips which are further crushed to result in a liquid pulp. The liquid is then filtered through a strainer which allows the fibres to get separated from the pulp. The next step involves softening the fibres that have been separated from the pulp. This is done by adding water mixed with amine oxide. The smoothened fibres are then spun to make yarn. The threads are then woven to make various kinds of fabrics like shirts, socks etc.
