The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of how fabric is produced from bamboo. The process starts in the spring season with the planting of bamboo plants and ends with the weaving of yarn.

Overall, the manufacturing of fabric comprises of nine steps: planting, harvesting, cutting, crushing, filtering, softening, spinning, weaving and clothes manufacturing that mainly uses chemical processes such as the filtering and softening of the fibres.

In the first step, bamboo plants are planted in the spring by farmers who harvest them in the season of the autumn as the second step. The cutting machine is used to cut the bamboo plants into strips which are crushed in the fourth step to produce liquid pulp.

The liquid pulp is passed through a filter which separates the long fibres from the liquid. In the next step, long fibres are softened by adding water and amine oxide which is an enzyme. Softened fibres are spun to produce yarn which will ultimately be weaved to manufacture the fabric. Lastly, when fabric is produced, it is utilized to create clothes like shirts, socks and many more.
