Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. Because the response is only 76 words, the information provided is extremely limited. While the student attempts to outline the process, many stages are missing or described with insufficient detail. The overview is underdeveloped, and the response lacks the necessary depth to fully report the main features or make meaningful comparisons as required by the prompt. To improve, the student must expand on each stage of the manufacturing process, ensuring all steps from cultivation to the final fabric production are described in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into short, fragmented paragraphs, which hinders the flow of information. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link the stages of the process logically. For example, the transition between the harvesting stage and the chemical processing stage is abrupt. The use of referencing is also weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the sequence of events. To improve, the student should use linking words such as 'subsequently', 'following this', and 'once the process is complete' to create a more cohesive narrative that guides the reader through the diagram.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying on simple verbs like 'made', 'cuts', and 'giving'. There is little attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary related to manufacturing or industrial processes. Phrases such as 'chemical items' and 'main position' are imprecise and do not accurately describe the technical stages shown in the diagram. To achieve a higher band score, the student needs to incorporate more precise terminology, such as 'processing', 'refining', 'cellulose', or 'textile production', and demonstrate a better grasp of collocations related to industrial manufacturing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'bamboo is harvest' instead of 'bamboo is harvested' and 'plantation of bamboo is takes place'. Sentence structures are simple and repetitive, with a lack of complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of parentheses and capitalization. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct verb tenses for describing processes (typically the present simple passive), and proofreading for common agreement errors.
