Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 87 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the student identifies the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, the description is overly simplistic and lacks the necessary detail and comparative analysis required for a Band 6 or higher. The overview is extremely brief and does not effectively summarise the key features of the process. To improve, the student must expand on each stage of the diagram, providing more descriptive detail and ensuring the response meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into very short, disjointed paragraphs. While there is a basic attempt at logical progression using transition words like 'First', 'then', and 'furthermore', the flow is mechanical and the structure is underdeveloped. The lack of sufficient content makes it difficult to establish a clear, cohesive narrative. The final sentence is particularly weak and does not serve as an effective conclusion. To improve, the student should focus on grouping related steps into coherent paragraphs and using a wider variety of cohesive devices to link ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms such as 'grown', 'cutting', 'crushed', and 'made'. There is little attempt to use academic or process-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'harvested', 'processed', 'chemical solution', 'extruded'). Some word choices are awkward, such as 'bamboo fabric procedure' and 'nine steps instructions'. To reach a higher band, the student needs to incorporate a broader range of precise, topic-specific vocabulary and demonstrate better control over word formation and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in tense and article usage. For example, 'bamboo plant are grown' should be 'bamboo plants are grown', and 'the farmer is cutting in strips' is grammatically awkward. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and missing full stops. The student should focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, consistent verb tenses for process descriptions, and incorporating complex sentence structures.
