Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 88 words. Consequently, the information is presented in a very fragmented and underdeveloped manner. While the student identifies the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process, the lack of detail and the failure to reach the required length significantly impact the score. The overview is present but lacks the necessary depth to fully satisfy the task requirements. To improve, the student must expand on each stage of the process, providing more descriptive detail and ensuring the response meets the minimum length criteria.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into short, simple paragraphs, which helps with basic readability. However, the progression of ideas is mechanical and lacks sophisticated cohesive devices. Transitions such as 'To begin with', 'Next', and 'Following this' are used, but they are repetitive and do not create a natural flow between sentences. The paragraphing is somewhat arbitrary, and the lack of length prevents the development of a cohesive structure. To improve, the student should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that sentences are connected more logically to create a smooth, coherent narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic verbs like 'make', 'do', and 'add'. There are also issues with word forms, such as 'manufactured fabric' instead of 'fabric manufacturing' and 'plant number of bamboos'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe a technical process effectively. To improve, the student needs to incorporate more precise, process-oriented terminology (e.g., 'processed', 'converted', 'extracted') and focus on using correct word forms and collocations appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb forms and sentence structure. Examples include 'The diagram illustrate' (subject-verb agreement error), 'process of manufactured' (incorrect prepositional phrase), and 'Before spin it' (missing subject/gerund error). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very little attempt at complex sentences. The high frequency of errors and the lack of grammatical variety significantly hinder the clarity of the writing. The student should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of gerunds after prepositions.
