IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates the manufacturing of a fabric from bamboo.

Overall, the process begins with the sowing of bamboo plants and ends with the production of dresses for daily use. The whole process consists of nine stages.

In the initial stage, farmers sow the bamboo plants in the season of spring and wait for the autumn season. In the autumn season, farmers harvest the bamboo trees through manual labor. Next, bamboo trees are transferred to a cutting machine, which cuts the bamboo trees into strips.

In the subsequent stage, strips of bamboo are crushed so that the liquid pulp can be extracted from them. Then, the pulp is passed through a filter to separate the long fibers from liquid pulp. In addition, long fibers are softened by mixing water and amine oxide in them.

At the final stage, soft fibers are spun to make yarn. Yarn is then transferred into fabric by the process of weaving. Finally, the useful products such as shirts, socks, and other items are made.
