IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The illustration demonstrates manufacturing of clothes from bamboo plants.

Overall, it is a nine step linear process which starts from planting of a bamboo plant and ends with production of fabric used for making clothes.

Firstly, bamboo plants are planted in the season of spring, followed by their manual harvesting in the fall season. After that these bamboo sticks are cut into strips to make it easier for the next step, which involves the crushing of these strips to squeeze out the liquid pulp found in them. The juice extracted from these strips are then passed through a filter, which separates fibres from liquid.

These isolated fibres are then added to a mixture of water and amine oxide which softens them. Later a ball of yarn is formed by spinning theses softened fibres. To achieve a material like fabric the yarn is weaved which in the end is used to make clothes such as shirts and socks.
