IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustrates processes in the manufacturing of fabric and clothes from bamboo.

Overall, the bamboo plant is planted in the spring season, while it is harvested in autumn. After harvesting the bamboo is sent through various processes that involves cutting the bamboo into strips and softening of the fibers after being filtered, before making fabric and clothing from it.

First the bamboo plant is planted in the spring season, then it is followed by harvesting that takes place in autumn. It is cut into strips by blades before crushing the strips to produce the liquid pulp out of it. It is then sent through a filter that separates long fibers from the liquid, and then the fibers are softened by adding water and amine oxide into them. After the fibers are softened, they are spun to make balls of yarn which are then wove to make the fabric.

Finally, as the fabric is made it is used to make different types of clothes such as T-shirts and socks.
