Student answer (Band 5.0)

The diagrams illustrate that how fabric is made by bamboo plant.

In overview, there are total nine steps of this process. The first steps started from how this plant was grows and lastly how clothes made from this plant.

To begin with, in the spring season the bamboo plant was planted then its harvested in the autumn after growing very well. After that, this plant was cut into strips with help of the sharp blade. Then, they crushed their stripe to make liquid pulp from bamboo.

Furthermore, separate long fibres from liquid with help of the filter. To make it soften, add amine oxide and water in fibre. In the next step, spin the fibre to make yam from this then its weave to make fabric. Lastly, the bamboo plant is ready to make different clothes , socks and other manufacture things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While the main stages of the bamboo manufacturing process are identified, the description is quite brief and lacks the necessary detail to fully explain the transformation. The overview is simplistic, and the response lacks a clear, analytical summary of the key features. To improve, you must expand on the specific technical stages, such as the chemical processing and the transition from pulp to yarn, to ensure a more comprehensive report that meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by the brevity of the content. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Lastly', they are sometimes used mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'In the next step, spin the fibre to make yam from this then its weave to make fabric', where the connection between the steps feels rushed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally functional but limited. You rely on basic terms like 'made', 'cut', and 'add', which do not demonstrate the range required for higher bands. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'yam' (likely meant 'yarn') and 'manufacture things'. To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate more precise, process-related vocabulary such as 'extracted', 'processed', 'converted', 'synthetic', or 'subsequently'. Expanding your range of synonyms and ensuring correct terminology for industrial processes will significantly improve your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb tense consistency and article usage. For example, 'the bamboo plant was grows' is incorrect; it should be 'the bamboo plant grows'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles, such as 'with help of the sharp blade' (should be 'with the help of a sharp blade'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic tense consistency and ensuring that articles and prepositions are used accurately throughout your writing.
