Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main stages of manufacturing fabric from bamboo as presented in the diagram. The writer mentions the initial stages such as growing and harvesting bamboo, cutting into strips, crushing into liquid pulp, and subsequent filtration. Comparisons are absent, and some steps are described with limited detail. The overview provided at the end ('Overall bamboo is processed through different stages to be in shape of clothes') is overly simplistic, and the writing is just above the minimum word count. Consequently, Task Achievement falls into Band 5, as the task is addressed only partially, with limited and under-developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks standard paragraphing, consisting essentially of one large block of text with a brief concluding sentence. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and mechanical (e.g., repeating 'Next stage' and 'and then'). There is a lack of smooth transitions between the complex steps of the manufacturing process, making the progression difficult to follow at times. Referencing is also weak, with run-on sentences blurring the relationship between ideas. This level of organization aligns with Band 4, as information and ideas are not arranged cohesively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words like 'make', 'process', and 'stage'. There are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'giver diagram' instead of 'given diagram', 'liquid pulp' (acceptable but basic), and 'weaver fabric' instead of 'woven fabric'. The range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. These features reflect the Band 5 descriptors for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, featuring severe run-on sentences and a lack of proper punctuation (e.g., 'Next stage bamboo plant go through the process and cut into strips then crush strips process to make liquid pulp then filtration process started...'). There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement ('bamboo plants was grown', 'plant go'), and missing articles. The writer attempts complex structures, but these are almost always faulty. This performance fits squarely into Band 4, where errors are frequent and often distort meaning.
