The diagram below shows how fabric is manufactured from bamboo.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

The picture illustrates how bamboo produced fabric.

Overall, in the given picture we learn techniques how to manufactured fabric out of bamboo in this method we have total nine section for preparation of fabric.

Taking a closer look of this diagram firstly for production of fabric we grew up bamboo plants in spring after that cutting the crops in autumn season furthermore cuts the crops into strips subsequently for making liquid pulp crushed strips following this filter long fibres from liquid furthermore for production of soften fibres add some water and amine oxide subsequently making yam spin the soften fibres following this weave the yam for production of fabric furthermore at the end of this method out of fabric we manufactured different clothing items for ourselves.

Additionally, out of this diagram we learn how to produced fabric from bamboo plants by using these nine techniques from growing bamboo plants to produced fabric from weave furthermore production of closthes from fabric.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the diagram showing the process of manufacturing fabric from bamboo, identifying the main stages from growing the plants to final clothing production. However, the task achievement is significantly limited by the lack of clear progression and the omission of key comparative features. The writing reads as a single, continuous run-on list of steps rather than a well-structured summary. While the student identifies the nine stages, the descriptions lack the necessary academic detail and overview required for Task 1. Important processes like chemical treatment and physical extraction are oversimplified. Consequently, the response meets the criteria for Band 5, as it addresses the task partially with limited development and an unclear, run-on structure that fails to highlight the most salient overarching trends of the manufacturing process.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

Coherence and cohesion are severely compromised in this response. The entire text, apart from two very short introductory and concluding sentences, consists of a single massive, unpunctuated run-on sentence. Phrases like 'after that', 'furthermore', and 'subsequently' are overused repetitively to string clauses together without proper punctuation or logical paragraph breaks. There is no clear organisation into distinct stages or logical progression of paragraphs. Referencing is weak, with repetitive use of 'the crops', 'the fabric', and 'the yam'. Because of the absence of periods, capitalization errors, and logical paragraphing, the text falls into Band 4 for this criterion, as information and ideas are not arranged coherently.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited, basic vocabulary range with frequent word choice and collocation errors. Terms from the prompt and diagram are repeated awkwardly, such as 'production of fabric', 'bamboo plants', and 'crushed strips'. Inappropriate lexical choices appear throughout, such as 'we grew up bamboo plants' instead of 'cultivated', and 'soften fibres' instead of 'softened fibres' or 'soft fibres'. There are also spelling errors like 'yam' instead of 'yarn' and 'closthes' instead of 'clothes'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic of the diagram, the frequent lexical errors and lack of precision restrict the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is a major weakness in this response. The text is characterised by a complete lack of proper sentence boundaries; the main body paragraph is a massive run-on sentence containing numerous clauses linked merely by conjunctions and transitional adverbs without periods. There are frequent errors in verb forms and tense consistency, such as 'how bamboo produced fabric' instead of 'how bamboo is used to produce fabric', and 'we have total nine section' instead of 'there are nine stages'. Attempts at complex or dependent clauses are poorly handled and unpunctuated. Because errors are extremely frequent and the absence of basic punctuation severely distorts sentence structure and readability, this performance aligns with Band 4.
